Srinagar: Parts of Kashmir Valley including Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, witnessed fresh snowfall overnight while rains lashed this summer capital of the state, weatherman said on Monday.
A meteorological department official told INS that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.0 Degrees Celsius last night and 0.4mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8:30 a.m.
Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, amassed 18 centimetres (more than half foot) of fresh snow and recorded a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius while the famous health resort of Pahalgam witnessed 4cms of snow and registered a minimum of minus .8 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius and saw rainfall of 7.8mm, he said.
The official said that Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir 6.8mm of rainfall and recorded a low of 0.9 degrees Celsius while the mercury settled at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius in Kokernag town which witnessed one centimetre of snow. The weatherman has forecast improvement in the weather in next 24-hours.
