Sunny day today; fresh wet spell from tomorrow, night mercury plunges across Valley

Srinagar: There will be a bright sunny day on Thursday while from tomorrow upto March 5, there will be fresh rain and snow spell, peaking on Saturday, weatherman said even as night temperatures plunged across Kashmir Valley.

A meteorological department official here said that Srinagar—the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir – recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4 Degrees Celsius last night against 1.5 degrees Celsius normal for this time of the season.

The official said that Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius while the mercury in Kokernag town in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus  2.9 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a minimum of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, witnessed a low of minus 12.0 degrees Celsius while the famous health resort of Pahalgam also recorded a minimum of minus 9.0 degrees Celsius.

“Today is a bright sunny day. From tomorrow upto 5th March rain snow spell is expected with main activity on 2nd March,” the official added.
