Militants killed in Shopian gunfight identified: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday identified two militants killed in the gunfight in southern Kashmir’s Shopian district among them one is a local.

One of the slain militants was identified as Suhail Nazir Mir son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Saidapora Payeen, Shopian and from the incrimination material recovered from the site of encounter, the other killed militant has been identified as a Pakistan.

“Based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Memender area in District Shopian, a cordon and search operation was launched today morning jointly by the police and forces in the area,” said a spokesman.

“As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants,” he said. “The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.”
