Shopian: Two militants of Jash-e-Mohammad, one of them outfit’s commander, were killed in a ‘pre-dawn’ gunfight with government forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Wednesday.
A police officer said a joint team of army, police’s SOG and paramilitary CRPF launched a search operation in Meemender village around 5 am following credible inputs about the presence of militants.
The officer said the militants opened fire on the government forces and the fire was returned, triggering an encounter.
A police spokesman said two militants affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad were killed in the gunfight. “Two Jaish militants were killed in the gunfight. Arms and ammunition were recovered. Searches are going on,” he said. One of the slain is being said to be top commander of the outfit.
