PULWAMA : The historical neolithic site of South Kashmir, ‘Gufkral’ at Tral area of Pulwama, got damaged due to recent snowfall and officials are yet to take any action to restore the site.

The residents told INS that, main portion of site developed cracks due to accumulation of snow at the site.

They said that despite being the historical site, none of the officials from sub distt. and distt. adminstration reached the area so far to assess the damage.

The locals demanded immediate intervention of authorities in securing the well known and historical heritage ‘Gurkral’.

Gufkral (literally Guf – cave Kral – potter), is located at Banmir village in Hurdumir area of Tral, 5 kilometres from the sub district headquarter.

The village falls between two nallahs (streams) on an extensive deposit of Karewa (elevated table-land) where people used to live in ancient times.
It is said that the first man reaching valley in the early part of the Neolithic period settled at Gufkral.
