Brain storming session on dairying held at KU

Srinagar: The Department of Food Science and Technology University of Kashmir hosted a brain storming session on “challenges and opportunities in dairy sector” at KU here on Wednesday.
The session was attended by concerned scientists of SKAUST-K and Kashmir University, entrepreneurs associated with dairying and milk processing besides some experts from outside the state.
Head, Department of Food Science & Technology Prof Farooq Masoodi stated that the objective of the session was to bring all stake holders on a common platform to identify the problems faced by the dairy industry.
Dr Kamlesh Trivedi, Advisor NDDB in his presentation highlighted importance of quality germplasm and its maintenance whileas representative from Department of Animal Husbandry, J& K gave an overview of the dairying activities in Kashmir and the various schemes for dairy sector in J&K.
Representatives from different milk processing units including JKMPC Ltd., Khyber Agro Farm Pvt Ltd., Zam Zam Milk and Milk Products, Haleeb Milk, and Kashmir Dairy interacted with the experts.
Dairy farmers also participated in the session and discussed the challenges faced by them.
A comprehensive information on dairy products, their marketing and business opportunities was presented by Dr Satish Kulkarni, Former Director of National Dairy Research Institute, Banglore campus.
The visiting experts also called on the Vice Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad after the session. Prof Talat while interacting with the experts enquired about the overall scope and constrains of the dairy sector in J&K.
