Srinagar: Hearing for a clutch of closely-watched cases challenging Article 35A of the constitution by the Supreme Court would be on February 13 or 14, Kashmir High Court Bar Association said on Sunday as it convened meeting of a panel of lawyers tomorrow.
The lawyers body has asked all members appearing before supreme court to positively attend the emergency meeting called by it tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the Bar Conference Hall at High Court.
The team includes M. A. Qayoom, President, J&K High Court Bar Association, Aijaz Ahmad Beadar (Vice-President), Mohammad Ashraf Bhat (Secretary General), Adil Asimi (Joint Secretary), Bilal Ahmad Wani (Treasurer), Z. A. Shah, Senior Advocate, Z. A. Qureshi, Senior Advocate, R. A. Jan, Senior Advocate, Mufti Mehraj, Advocate, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Advocate, Mohammad Altaf Haqqani, Advocate, , Mohammad Shafi Reshi, Advocate, , Arshad Andrabi, Advocate, Bashir Siddiq, and Nazir Ahmad Ronga, Advocate.
Last year, the apex court adjourned the case after the state and the central governments requested for the same.
The law empowers the Jammu and Kashmir legislature to determine who are permanent residents of the state and give them various special rights and privileges while imposing restrictions on others in respect of jobs, acquiring land, settling in the state, right to scholarships and other forms of aid. The constitutional provision bars outsiders from owning property in Jammu and Kashmir.
