Says 3500 Vehicles Crossed Jahawar Tunnel As Highway Reopens After 3 Days Closure

Jammu: Over 3500 vehicle crossed Jahawar Tunnel on Sunday as the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway was restored or traffic on Sunday after three consecutive days of closure due to snow and landslides, officials said.
They stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards the Kashmir Valley on priority from the Ramban-Bannihal sector.
Inspector General of Police Traffic, Alok Kumar told INS that 3500 vehicles, most of them passenger ones, crossed the Jawahar Tunnel towards Kashmir on Sunday.
“Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, only trucks carrying food supplies and other stuff of day to day importance will be allowed towards Srinagar form Jammu,” he said.
Due to the highway closure, prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed in the valley with mutton, poultry products and vegetables being sold at inflated rates.
