Srinagar: National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Monday said that late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, PDP founder and former chief minister, used state transport to bring supporters to official R-Day or I-Day functions to show how much the situation was “improving” in Kashmir Valley.
Reacting to a tweet calling as “quite silly” the Governor’s diktat, making employees attendance compulsory at the official 26 January functions, Omar replied: “ Please correct me if I’m wrong here but this isn’t the first time. Attendance has been compulsory in the past as well. In fact late Mufti Sb used to use state transport/police vehicles to bring supporters to show how much the situation was “improving”.”
The twitteree Harinder Baweja had tweeted: “Quite silly of @jandkgovernor to issue a diktat making it compulsory for govt servants to attend Republic Day function. Anyone who does that doesnt really understand the ground reality in the state. Can patriotism be forced?”
The government on last Tuesday ordered its employees to attend main functions in Jammu and Srinagar on January 26 as part of their official duty and warned them over failure.
