JNU sedition case over Afzal Guru’s hanging: 7 Kashmiri students named in chargesheet by Delhi police

New Delhi: Seven Kashmiri students were among those against whom the Delhi Police has submitted a charge sheet in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) sedition case at the Patiala House Courts.
The case pertains to raising of “freedom for Kashmir” and “anti-India” slogans at an event on the campus against the hanging of Afzal Guru.
In the charge sheet, the police also named 36 students, including student leaders Shehla Rashid and Aprajita Raja.
Those named in the charge sheet also include Kanhaiya Kumar, Syed Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, according to report. The chargesheeted has been filed under IPC Sections 124 A (sedition), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 465 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine, forged document), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 149 (unlawful assembly with common object), 147 (rioting), 120B (criminal conspiracy).
They have been kept in column number 12 of the charge sheet, which stated they were present during the event but police do not have sufficient evidence against them.
The charge sheet said investigation revealed that Kanhaiya Kumar, then JNU Students’ Union president, led the protesters on the evening of February 9, 2016 and raised anti-India slogans: “Hum kya chahte Azadi “, “hum leke rahenge Aazadi “Go India, go back”, “Bharat tere tukde honge, Inshaallah” “Kashmir ki azadi tak jang rahegi.
