Bandipora: Despite the passing of a year, the state government has failed to probe the Rural Development Department scam that surfaced in Watapora village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district in the month of January last year.

The scam in RDD was surfaced in the January last year wherein it was come to fore that the officials have withdrawn the amount worth lakhs from scores of ‘bogus’ job cards under the centrally sponsored MGNREGA scheme.

Sources privy to the case proceedings revealed that probe into the scam was slowed down ‘deliberately’.

“There is no progress into the case,” sources added.

Sources claimed that said that no action was taken up against officials who were main accused in the scam, ‘because they enjoy political patronage.’

Even though Director RDD Qazi Sarwar told INS over phone that, an in-depth investigation into the misappropriation of money has been initiated by Govt.

He claimed that further investigations are underway to ascertain.

“It may take day or two to complete and strict action will be taken against the culprits,” Sarwar promised.

Sources in the department confided that they have not ordered any probe into the matter. “Though the higher authorities in the department had assured the probe into the matter, but till date no formal orders were issued to initiate the probe,” sources said.

Villagers of Khuspora area of Watapora of Bandipora said that, the state government and officials of Rural Development Department are yet to come up with the details of probe regarding the scam.

They alleged that officials are hand-in-glove with politically well influential persons and facilitate them in making job cards in favor of ‘blue eyed’ persons to grab the money meant for poor.

Locals have raised eye brows against the RDD officials and Panchs and former Sarpanch for their alleged embezzlement .

In the month of January last year, INS reported, how officials of RDD department have withdrawn the huge amount worth Lakhs from dozens of bogus Job Cards under the Centrally Sponsored MGNREGA Scheme.
