Srinagar:  Director General Of Police Dilbagh Singh on Wednesday said that the killings of militants is painfull and it is not a thing to be celebrated.
“It is always painfull when the youth who have picked up arms are killed in operations. While it’s is success that militants in high number have been killed but at the same time it means that lives are being lost.  This is not something to be celebrated,” he said.
He also rejected that Global militant outfit ISIS’s footprints in the valley is big but said that incidents like waving of black flags and the recent jamia masjid incident might be orchestrated to give a perception that their is a large footprint of ISIS.
“A section of youth is being radicalised otherwise presence of ISIS is not that big in Kashmir,” Singh said.
Singh made these comments while addressing a presser here and was flanked by other senior officers of the police force.
Giving details about the counter insurgency operations, DGP said that  97 operations took place in the year 2018 while 83 ended without collateral damage.
He said that 252 militants and 91 civilians were killed in the year.
Out of 91 civilians killed, 44 were killed by militants while 38 lost their lives near encounter sites.
45 policemen, 9 crpf men and 30 Army personnel were also killed in the year.
“Many youth who had joined the path have returned home”, he said, adding that the actual number can’t be disclosed.
Singh said that he hoped 2019 will be better year and graph of violence comes down.
