Qazigund: The people of  Checki-Budwani in Qazigund area held a protested against the acute water shortage in the area, from past one month.
Scores of the residents including men, women and children assembled on Qazigund Railway station Road and raised Slogans against Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) Qazigund.
The protest by the residents of Cheki Budwani also disrupted the  traffic movement for hours on the busy road.
“Water supply is snapped of our village  for the past one month and they were forced to consume contaminated water to villagers.
The consumption of contaminated water has led to water-borne diseases like jaundice and gastroenteritis” said a local resident from Checki-Budwani Village.
Executive Engineer PHE Qazigund Ghulam Nabi Bhat he said they had found an excessive rate of iron in water tank so we stopped the water supply.
“I assure to bring the matter into the notice of higher authorities and hopefully the problem will be sorted out as  soon as possible,” he said, adding they department will get more water tanker supply for the area so that they will not face the shortage of water.
