Bandipora: Government forces on Thursday claimed to have detected and defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Dar Mohalla of Garoora area of Bandipora District of North Kashmir.
Reports said that the Police, army in a joint team detected an IED weighing 20 kgs.
“The explosive was later defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and then destroyed,” they said.
Officials said that militants had planted IED on Bandipora-Srinagar Road near Dar Mohalla of Garoora area.
He said the IED weighed 20 kg and was sophisticated, in a welded iron container with a detonator & fuze.
“It could have caused huge damage had it not been detected timely by the army,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have taken the cognizance of the incident.
