Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to deputy mayor Sheikh Imran over his alleged misbehavior with doctors during a visit Chest Disease Hospital here, observing that “exercising powers by any authority which are not available to him in law amount to breaking of rule of law and as such violation of human rights.”
Taking Suo Motto cognizance of media reports about the incident, the SHRC said that news reports were “disturbing and even a video is circulating on the social media about Deputy Mayor’s visit in hospital in Srinagar.”
“It is well settled that exercising powers by any authority which are not available to him in law amount to breaking of rule of law and as such violation of Human Rights. The reports prima facie suggest that Deputy Mayor’s remarks / comments were humiliating to members of very respectable and notable profession,” the SHRC said.
The Commission issued notice to Deputy Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Srinagar to file his reply by December 26.
Imran recently visited the hospital and allegedly used “unparliamentary” language with doctors.
A purported video also went viral on the social media and there were demands of action by doctors and netizens among others against Imran. The businessman-turned deputy Mayor tendered an apology but insisted that his visit was not superseding his domain of work.
