Valley shuts over JRL call to mourn Pulwama killings

Srinagar: Shutdown is being observed in valley against the killings that took place in south Kashmir on Saturday including seven civilians and three militants.

Joint Resisitance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a three day shutdown from saturday to Monday.

They have also asked to move towards Badamibagh cantonment on Dec 17.

Bussiness establishements are closed, and traffic is off the roads.

In view of the shutdown against the Pulwama killings, the district administration Srinagar imposed restrictions in Srinagar areas to prevent any possible protests.

Officials said that the restrictions will be imposed in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Maharaj Gunj and Maisuma police stations especially in old city areas to thwart any possible protests called by JRL.

Reports of shutdown were received for other districts as well.

Seven civilians were killed in clashes near the gunfight site in Pulwama village after government forces killed three militants in gunfight.

One army man too was killed in the fire fight.

The District Magistrate Pulwama Saturday imposed restrictions under section 144 of Cr PC in the district in view of the apprehension of breach of peace.

As per an official handout issued here, the restriction shall stand till further orders, however said that Bona fide medical and other emergencies, however, shall be exempted from the restrictions.
