Pulwama : Power development department in Tral, on Friday launched a “massive” drive against power theft in main Tral town and other areas of the sub division.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Power development department in Tral, Mohammad Maqbool told INS that the raids have been started, early in the morning on Friday to stop power pilferage in the area.
He said that, during the drive, all the domestic and commercial connections for power pilferage were nabbed to ensure better power supply in the area.
“In the very first day of the drive, power theft has been unearthed even in most of the parts in Tral,” Maqbool said, adding that more raids will be conducted in coming days.
Earlier, a top official said that the cases of power theft increase during the winter months, which leads to severe over-loading of the distribution system, resulting in power cuts.
“Many teams have been formed, who will be conducting inspections even in the rural areas to stop power pilferage,” he had said.
