Budgam: The Department of animal husbandry Budgam has initiated the month long vaccination drive under Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) programme to timely curb the foot and mouth diseases among cattle.

Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Budgam, Dr Mohammad Ashraf Mir while talking to The INS News said that Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a dangerous infectious disease that causes due to virus and can affectanimals and its dairy sector.

Mir said that “the common symptoms of FMD disease among cattle’s are fever, blisters on tongue, lips and gums, weakness and reduction in the huge milk productivity.”  He said that the calf below four months have high life risk in this disease, Mir said.

Further he said the month long drive was started on 10th November 2018 but due to other schedules the drive will continue till all the 142000 cattle will be vaccinated across the district. Under this programme all cattle will be vaccinated with single dose during first phase of six months and after six months the department will go for second dose under same programme. People have to pay only one rupee for vaccinating per cattle.
