Panchayat polls: With 346 hypersensitive polling stations, voting commences for ninth phase in J&K

JAMMU: Voting for ninth which is last phase of ongoing panchayat polls began on Tuesday at 452 polling stations in Kashmir division.

The timing for polling is from 8 am to 2 PM. 

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Syed Ali Geelani,  Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have called for shutdown in poll bound areas against what they termed as ‘sham elections thrusted on people’.

According to JK Chief Electoral Officer, 346 polling stations have been categorized as hypersensitive in the phase.

He said 430 candidates in the fray for 55 Sarpanch and 138 Panch seats while 68 Sarpanchs and 433 Panchs have been elected unopposed in the phase.

He said in the areas going to polls in Phase-IX, electorate of 68745 will be voting for Sarpanch constituencies and 20688 for Panch constituencies. “Photo Voter Slips have been distributed among the voters to inform them of their polling station,” he said.
