Srinagar: Pulwama district of south Kashmir recorded abysmal voter turnout of 1.1% while Kupwara district recorded polling of 41.6% in first four hours of voting in the final phase of the 9-phased elections in Kashmir Valley on Tuesday.
The polling begun at 8 a.m. and would continue till 2 p.m. and till noon, Pulwama saw voter turnout of 1.1%, Ganderbal 15.5%, Anantnag 19.0%, Budgam 29.6%, Baramulla 28.1%, Bandipora 31.7% and 41.6% in Kupwara.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir, 430 candidates are in the fray for 55 sarpanch and 138 panch seats, while 68 sarpanches and 433 panch have been elected unopposed for this phase. 68745 electorates are eligible for voting for sarpanch constituencies whereas it is 20688 for panch constituencies. In this phase, 452 polling stations are being set up of which 346 have been categorised as hypersensitive.
