Srinagar: An army soldier and a personnel of Special Operation Group of police were injured in a gunfight in Mujgund area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday.
Reports said that there was lull after a fierce firefight between militants and the government forces for sometime before gunfight resumed again. While unconfirmed reports suggest that two militants were slain, there was no official confirmation.
“The operation is ongoing. So far we cannot confirm any militant casualty,” a police officer said.
Earlier, soon after the news about the encounter started, many people, mostly youth, took to streets and announcements were made over the public address systems of the mosques asking youth to stage protests.
Reports said youth pelted the forces with stones to disrupt the operation and the forces responded by firing tear gas shells.
