Srinagar: In a deadly mishap that occurred in Poonch district of Jammu division, the district administration on Saturday said that that total death toll in the mishap has mounted to 13.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Poonch, Rahul Yadav told INS that 17 others have also sustained injuries in the mishap while five among them have been airlifted to Jammu hospital, saying that rest of the injured has been rushed to the hospital via road.

The accident occurred at Plera area near Kalarpella in the district when a passenger vehicle bearing registration number JK02W-0445 skidded off a road and plunged into a deep gorge.

The passenger vehicle was on its way from Loran to Poonch in the wee hours today when the accident occurred.

DC further added that the details about men and women killed in the accident is not available and will be given later.

Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief and anguish over the loss of precious lives in a tragic road accident.

In his message, Governor has prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families. He has wished speedy recovery to those injured in this accident.

Meanwhile, DC Poonch said that the Governor has announced Rs 5 lakh each to the kith and kin of those who died in the mishap while Rs 15000 have been announced for the injured persons.
