Youth killed in Anantnag on Eid-ul-Fitr was injured in forces action, admits J&K police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police has confessed that a youth Sheeraz Ahmed Naikoo of Anantnag was injured in forces action while dealing with the protestors on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, who later succumbed to his injuries at district hospital Anantnag.

In a report submitted to SHRC, Police admitted that Sheeraz was injured when police and other forces fired pellets and tear gas shells to disperse protesters on June 16, 2018.

The police report comes in response to the petition filed by Rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo.

The report reads that on June 16, after Eid prayers at Eidgah Ahlihadith Ashajipora and Eidgah Hanifa Janglat Mandi Anantnag, “an unruly mob resorted to stone pelting upon the police forces deployed around the Hanfia Eidgah and police Janglat Mandi. Police and other forces tried to disperse the protestors in a peaceful manner but the mob turned more violent and continuously pelted stones on the forces. The police and other forces in retaliation fired some tear smoke shells/pellets to disperse the miscreants soon the clashes spread to other parts of the town of Anantnag.”

The report said that one youth namely Sheeraz Ahmed Naikoo of Brakpora, Anantnag received injuries during the stone pelting who was shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
