JRL urges Norway to help resolve Kashmir issue, mitigate peoples sufferings

Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership on Friday urged the Norwegian government to make serious efforts “to resolve the Kashmir dispute to mitigate the sufferings of people of Kashmir and for lasting peace in South Asia.”
The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq made the urge on Friday while their meeting with the former Prime Minister of Norway Kjell Mangne Bondevik at Hyderpora residence of the octogenarian leader, according to a statement issued here.
Mohammad Yasin Malik couldn’t attend the meetings as he was under detention while Geelani and Mirwaiz briefed Bondevik about the present prevailing situation in Kashmir, the statement said.
Geelani and Mirwaiz told Bondevik that GoI has kept the Kashmir issue lingering over the past seven decades which has resulted in enormous miseries for the people that include killings of people and the youth, worst ever human rights violations while as lakhs of government forces present in Kashmir who enjoy full impunity for accountability under black laws have let loose hell on the people of J&K, the statement said.
“Geelani and Mirwaiz also told Bondevik that every Kashmiri yearns for a peaceful and dignified solution of the issue so that they see the end to worst ever repression they are facing at present, and that lies in either in implementing the UN resolutions or through tripartite dialogue between India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir.”
The JRL leaders urged the Norwegian former Prime Minister that since his country has a history in playing a positive role in conflict resolutions, the Norwegians government should also make serious efforts to resolve the vexed dispute to mitigate the sufferings of people of Kashmir and for lasting peace in South Asia .
The JRL leaders explained to the Norwegian prevailing situation in Kashmir and termed it “very sensitive and fragile.”
The former Norweigian Prime Minister led delegation ensured that they would use their good offices to ensure a sustained and result oriented dialogue between India and Pakistan begins so that an amicable solution to Kashmir issue is found.
Meanwhile Joint Resistance Leadership has asked people to observe a complete protest shutdown in Kralpora, Meelyal, Reddi Chokibal, Handwara, Rohama, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Soibugh, Sarsyar, Keller, D.H.Pora, D.K. Marg, Menzgam areas going to polls in the third phase of the panchayat elections “thrust on them by the authoritarian state.”
JRL asked People to “demonstrate their total rejection and disregard of this futile exercise by staying away and boycotting it completely.”
