Shopian: Two militants and an army commando were killed in ongoing gunfight in Nadigam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.
A police officer said that joint team of Army including its elite Para commandos, J&K police’s SOG and paramilitary CRPF laid a cordon-and-search operation in Nadigam after receiving “credible inputs” about the presence of militants in the village.
“As the forces reached a suspected spot , hiding militants fired on the joint team of forces, triggering of a gunfight,” he said.
So far, the officer said, two militants and one Para commando of army was killed. As soon as the encounter started, the internet was suspended in the entire Shopian district. Later internet was suspended in Anantnag district also, the officials said. They said internet has been purportedly suspended owing to Panchayat elections under phase-II in Anantnag. (with inputs from Sameer Ahmad in Anantnag)
