In 7 years, Govt fails to make Haba Khatoon maternity hospital functional

Srinagar: Even as the construction for the new maternity hospital in Baghwanpora Noorbagh area of Srinagar was started in the year 2011, the successive regimes from past seven years have failed to make the hospital functional here, thus leaving the patients as well as the medicos to suffer.

The construction for the hospital was started with an aim to tackle the rush of patients at Lal Ded hospital here and JVC medical college but that still seems a distant dreams with department failing to make the hospital functional.

Sources in the health department said that huge amount in crores were spent for the construction of the hospital building but no steps were taken by the department to make the hospital functional.

They informed that the foundation stone of the hospital was laid by the concerned MLA, Mubarak Gul in the year 2011. The hospital was named Haba Khatoon Maternity and Children hospital.

Sources said that the authorities also to make Operation Theater and labour rooms available in the hospital, which is a must in the maternity hospital.

They said that the hospital’s construction was given a nod with an aim to tackle the huge rush at Lal Ded and JVC hospital where maternity patients are being treated and operated.

However, non-functioning of the hospital even after elapsing seven years has left the patients to suffer while as medicos at Lal Ded and JVC also said that the functioning of the Haba Khatoon hospital could have resulted in decrease in the rush of patients.

The newly appointed Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Kunzes Dolma said that she will look into the matter, saying that she took over recently and has no information in this regard. “I will have to see why it has not been made operational so far,” she added.
