Extension Lecture on ‘Shaikh-ul Aalam in Historical Perspective’ held at KU

Srinagar: Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul Aalam Studies (CSAS), University of Kashmir organised an extension lecture delivered by Prof. Gulshan Majeed former Director Centre for Central Asian Studies, KU here on Wednesday.

Prof. Gulshan Majeed in his lecture described Shaikh-ul Aalam’s role in the historical backdrop of those times and stressed on the need to revive his poetry for the benefit of the upcoming generations.

He said “Sheikh-ul-Alam had a fore-vision about the odds that would prevail in the society and he made people aware in advance about various threats that would engulf the society in the times to come.”

Applauding the students for being ‘repositories of knowledge’ he advised them to make efficient use of technologies at their disposal in seeking and disseminating knowledge.

Dr. Mehfooza Jan, Chairperson Markaz-i Noor, CSAS put forth her welcome address in which she said that the Centre is committed to disseminate the message of great sufi saint Hazarat Shaikh-ul Aalam(RA).

Deputy Director DIQA Showket Shafi in his speech appreciated the role of Shaikh-ul Aalam in changing the feudal administrative structures of his time and further admired Shaikh-ul Aalam as a symbol of change and understanding.

Addressing the participants Dr. Shafqat Altaf, Assistant Professor underscored the need to study history of Kashmir beyond emotional attachment and further impressed upon the research scholars to revisit the legacy of Shaikh-ul Aalam in tune with the changes taking place in the contemporary world.

The lecture was attended by a galaxy of intellectuals, academicians, and faculty members of varsity. The proceedings of the event was conducted by Ashaq Hussian Mir and vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Mansoor Ahmad.
