Srinagar: The night temperature rose considerably across Kashmir Valley amid forecast for snow in next few days especially on Tuesday and Wednesday.
An official of the MET department said Srinagar – the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir – recorded a minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius, over a degree Celsius up from the normal for night for this time of the season .
The official said the mercury in Qazigund and Kokernag towns in south Kashmir settled at a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius and 3.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of 2.6 degrees Celsius, he said.
Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius, slightly lesser than minus 3.0 degrees Celsius the previous night, the official said.
He said the famous health resort of Pahalgam registered a minimum of 0.7 degrees Celsius.
“There are chances of light rain in plains and light snowfall at higher reaches in next 24 hours,” the official said, adding, “From Monday to Wednesday there will be light to moderate rains/snow in most parts of Kashmir.” The weather office has already issued yellow warning (be cautious) for Tuesday and Wednesday.
