Rains lash Valley, brings chill

Srinagar: Rains lashed Kashmir Valley on second consecutive day, bringing down the maximum temperature across the Valley on Friday.
Most parts of Kashmir, including summer capital Srinagar, received rains, an official of the meteorological office here said.
He said the downpour brought down the maximum temperature by several degrees across Kashmir with Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kupwara and Gulmarg registering a drop of more than eleven degrees as against normal for this time of the year.
Kupwara recorded a maximum temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius against normal temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius, the official said.
He said Srinagar which had rainfall of 3.6 mm from 8:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. recorded 8.8 degrees Celsius, compared to 19.3 degrees normal during time of the year.
Similarly Qazigund recorded maximum of 8.1 Degree Celsius, Pahalgam 4.8 Deg Cel, Kokernag 8.0 while Gulmarg where seasons fresh snowfall was witnessed overnight saw plunge in mercury to below one degree Celsius, recording maximum of 0.4 degree Celsius.
The weatherman has forecast more rains in the Valley over the next 24-hours and decrease in precipitation in days ahead.
“There is possibility of light rain/snow (at most places in Kashmir division, many places in Jammu and few places in ladakh division in next 24-hours,” a meteorological department official told INS.
For subsequent two days, he said there would be decrease in precipitation.
