Pulwama: One of the far-off villages in South Kashmir’s Tral in Pulwama district is without electricity, even in the 21st century, with locals mostly making use of solar lights and oil lamps to enlight their houses.

Residents of Wazil-Kulnad Lalpora area , the remote village of Tral sub district, told “The INS News” that the village is without electricity despite back to back requests to the concerned department for the implementation of electricity in the area from last 7 years.

They said that despite several requests , Government and concerned department has not made any effort to light up this beautiful village so far, leaving residents in the state of despair.

“We don’t have electricity yet in our village. The legislators during elections , promised us that the said village will be electrified but none of them kept their promise ,” said a local resident while talking to The INS News.

He further said that the village is facing multiple problems like dilapidated roads , lack of ration store, but the major one is of electricity, which remains the dream of people here as it has never arrived here till date.

The students of this village also face a lot of difficulties as due to lack of electricity they can’t study mainly after dusk hours due to darkness in the whole area.

“Lot of difficulties are being occured in the absence of electricity as we are not able to study during late hours because of lack of electricity which is the basic need for all of us here ” said a student, who studies in the nearby area Nagapathri.

Pertinently , Women folk too in this electric era , use to cook food on traditional chulhas made of mud , using firewood inside it. Their kids sit nearby them all disciplined and observant and are awaiting for the electricity to come.

“We are eagerly waiting for the electricity as we have struggled very hard to provide education to our childrens who are very interesting in further studies now ” a women from Wazil-Kulnad area told The INS News.

“We hope to see our next generation free from all that problems which we suffered since decades due to scarcity of basic amenities ” she added.

The dismayed residents of this area have requested higher authorities to look into the matter and provide electricity as early as possible without making fake assurances.

Power Development Department Chief Engineer, Kashmir Shahnaz Ghoni told INS that there are total 26 villages in Kashmir which are yet to get electrified and same are being covered under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.

She further said tendering processing is going on and work is likely to start sooner in these villages.
