Power woes: Chief Engineer says special teams constituted, will ensure uninterrupted power supply this winter

Srinagar: This winter, the people of Kashmir may heave a sigh of relief from the uninterrupted power supply as the Governor led administration in Jammu and Kashmir has taken several initiatives to ensure people don’t face hardships during the winters.

Soon after the Governor’s rule in the state, the Governor led administration took a decision of financial restructuring of the department, which officials believe would help in providing adequate electricity to the consumers.

The officials privy to the development informed that the steps taken by the Governor led administration may put an end to the winter power woes in Kashmir. “The state administration is putting every effort to provide adequate electricity to the people of Kashmir this winter,” officials said.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam also directed PDD to ensure that there is no power problem in Kashmir and winter zone of Jammu during the winters.

He had said there are clear instructions from the Governor that the consumers shouldn’t be put to any inconvenience because of unscheduled power cuts during the winters. CS added the Governor is very particular about ensuring electricity supply in view of the examinations of the students beginning this month.

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD), Hashmat Qazi while talking to this reporter said that the department will ensure adequate electricity to the consumers this winter. “Several mechanisms were put in place by the department to ensure adequate elect city,” he said.

However, he said that the people should also cooperate with the department by using judicious use of electricity.

Saying that those who will put extra load will be fined, Chief Engineer PDD said that the department has constituted special groups for this winter to ensure people don’t put extra load. “The special groups have been constituted in every division of PDD have been tasked to go for check in evening and night hours to ensure judicious use of electricity,” he said.

He also said that strict action under the PDD law will be taken against those who will be found putting extra load this winter.
