Srinagar: Underscoring the need for proper implementation of Social Welfare Schemes, Secretary Social Welfare, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone today said that there is a need for generating greater awareness among the masses about these schemes and facilitating people to join them, so that the benefits reach the intended sections of the society in an efficient manner.

The Secretary was chairing a review meeting on the revival of various schemes of J&K, State Social Welfare Board.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Social Welfare, Rifat Arif, Director Finance, Abdul Majeed Bhat, Additional Secretary to Government, Babu Ram and various other officers of the Social Welfare Department.

The Secretary reviewed the National Creche Scheme funded by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Welfare for poor families, who require support and relief for childcare. During the meeting, a committee was formulated under the chair of Secretary to inspect all the creches working under the scheme.

The meeting was informed by the officials that Rs 1,51,600 per annum is spent on every crèche, having children in the age group of six-month to six years, for supplementary nutrition and pre-primary education through play-way method.

While reviewing the Family Counseling Centres, Lone directed the officials to follow the guidelines issued by Central Social Welfare Board for setting up of Family Counseling Centre’s to provide counselling to women facing matrimonial disputes.

While reviewing the Swadhar Greh Scheme meant for earthquake victims, Secretary said that Swadhar Shelter Homes should be monitored by District Administration round the clock.

At the end of the meeting, Lone directed the NGO’s that act as implementing agencies of various welfare schemes for needy, to complete all codal formalities at the earliest.
