Kashmir civic polls: Islamabad, Srinagar record lowest turnout at 1.1%, 2.3% respectively in second phase

Srinagar: Kashmir capital city Srinagar and southern Kashmir’s Islamabad district recorded the lowest turnout in the second phase of the ongoing urban local body elections on Wednesday.

Besides the twin districts, officials said, Handwara in northern Kashmir recorded a poll percentage of 5.1 while Sopore recorded 6.1.

The highest turnout was recorded in Sumbal municipal committee area of northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Officials said that out of the total 178060 registered voters who were scheduled to cast vote today, only 4169 people cast their votes in the second phase of the Municipal Elections.
