Sonamarg, higher reaches of Kashmir receive snowfall

Srinagar: Tourist resort of Sonamarg along with higher reaches of Kashmir Valley received snowfall, official sources said on Tuesday.
They said that a thin blanket of snow has covered the Sonamarg tourist resort in Ganderbal district of the central part of Valley.
While most of the Kashmir Valley received rainfall overnight, upper reaches including Zojila Pass, Zero Point, Minimarg, Tajwas glacier received fresh snowfall since morning.
The authorities here have already issued a weather advisory following a communication received from Indian Meteorological Centre (Ministry of Earth Science).
According to the forecast, there is possibility of light to moderate rain or snow on mountains till forenoon of October 10 across the Jammu and Kashmir State.
“Light to moderate rain and snow on higher reaches at fairly widespread to widespread places of Kashmir, fairly widespread places of Jammu and at few places of Ladakh, mainly Kargil district during next 24 to 36 hours. There are chances of light to moderate snowfall on Zojila, Sinthan pass, Jammu-Srinagar Highway, Mughal Road and other hilly areas,” the weatherman said.
Following the forecast, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan issued a weather advisory, asking Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division including Leh and Kargil to advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during this period. “The concerned Deputy Commissioners are also asked to take all precautionary measures, so as to avert any untoward incident. The road clearance and power restoration should be the utmost priority.”
