Polls 2018: Kashmir shuts on JRL call

Srinagar: Kashmir valley is observing a complete shutdown on Monday as the polling for municipal wards begins.

Reports of complete shutdown were received from all the district headquarters of the valley including capital city Srinagar.

All business establishments are closed while traffic is also off the roads. “A very thin movement of private transport is visible on the roads in Srinagar,” witnesses said.

The joint resistance leadership has called for a complete shutdown and also asked the people to boycott the polls.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have already boycotted the polls.

In Phase 1 of the urban local body polls Srinagar Municipal Corporation ward number 16 to 17 and 74, Municipal committee Kupwara, Handwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam, Chadoora, Khansahab, Kulgam, Devsar, Achabal, Kokernag, Qazigund, Kargil, Leh, Bishnah, Arnia, R.S. Pora, Ghomanhasan, Akhnoor, Jourian, Khour, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Rajouri, Thanamandi, Nowshera, Sunderbani, Kalakote, Poonchand Surankote are going for polls.
