Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is facing an acute shortage of men and machinery including dearth of almost 1600 Safayi Karamcharis. Officials however claim that they are doing their best but said that process to boost the system is on.

A startling revelation has to come fore through the SMC’s official website, which reads that the corporation requires at least 3600 Safayi Karamcharis but has only 2018 out of which 1765 are on regular basis while as the rest of 343 are on consolidated bases.

Besides men, the corporation also lacks machinery and the equipments, used to clan the garbage, thus giving a tough challenge to the administration to make Srinagar, green and clean city.

The revelation has came to fore at a time when the state government is mulling to develop smart city in Srinagar for which, they claimed to have taken steps.

The website added that the corporation also requires 25 dumper placer vehicles while only 12 are available. It also sans dumper bins. Out of 400 dumper bins required, it has only 110.

The website also added that the out of 10 Refuse Collector required, the corporation has only 01 while it also reveals that out of 400 Refuse Collector Bins (Kerb side bins) required, it has only 20.

The corporation is also running short of tipper trucks. “Out of 34 required, the corporation is only having 24 available,” website reveals, adding that the corporation also sans 480 tricycles. “Corporation has only 20 tricycles available against the requirement of 500,” it added

It added that SMC sans two compactors for dumping site. “Out of three required, the corporation has only one compactor for dumping site,” it reveals.

Meanwhile, SMC Commissioner, Peerzada Hafizullah while talking to INS admitted that the corporation sans  men and machinery. “We are working on it and I hope that men and machinery will be increased soon to further strengthen the corporation,” he said.
