ULB polls 2018: 17 candidates win uncontested in Kupwara

Kupwara: In Kupwara district about 70 contestants have filed their nomination forms for the ULB pools of which 17 candidates have won  uncontested, the candidates include 8 females as well.

An official wishing anonymity told INS that 17 have been declared winners uncontested after September 28 was the last date of withdrawing from polls”.

“Cannot disclose names due to security reasons,” he said.

The officials data reveals that  in 39 wards across district kupwara 70 candidates including male and female have filed their nomination forms backed by different political parties and some among them are independent candidates as well.

He said that in Langate, total wards are 13 with contestants equal to 15 among whome unopposed contestants are 9.

“Male candidates are  12 and  female 3 with one ward in which no form was submitted by any one to contest election,” He said.

Kupwara has Total wards 13 with contestants numbering 31 and unopposed 2 (one male and one female).

Handwara: Total wards 13, contestants 24, unopposed 6, Male 19, female 3.

Brother of Member Parliment Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Reyaz Ahmad Mir, who has filed the nomination papers as well.

After receiving  threats from different militant outfits the candidates have been given extra protection by allorting Personal Securtity Officers (PSO).

General secretary Congress party Nazir Ahmad Lone said: If people’s Democratic Party has decided not to take part (Contest) the ULB pools then why PDP candidates have submitted their forms at different wards in kupwara including brother of MP Fayaz Ahmad Mir, they are fooling the people playing foul games.”
