The protest is organised by All Jammu and Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association (AJKTWA).

Chairman Sardar T S Wazir, said that they had earlier provided government seven days ‘ultimatum’ in redressing problems faced by the transporters.

Wazir said that entire transporters will go for statewide indefinite strike towards  lackadaisical attitude of the government.

“Several meetings with transporters pertaining to our issues were held by government  all in vain. Government is not interested in addressing the long pending demands of the transporters which forced the transporters to take an agitational path.”

“Earlier, in the month of May this year, we have conducted a high level meeting with Navin Kumar Chowdhary, Transport Commissioner and apprised him about the miseries of the transporters where the government has increased only 8 per cent in passenger fare. Fuel prices have crossed Rs 80 mark which is not adequate,” he maintained and demanded 30 per cent hike in passenger fare as per present Petroleum.
