Updated: SPO posted as security guard of PDP MLA deserts with 7 rifles, pistol; alert sounded

Srinagar: A Special Police Officer (SPO) presently posted as security guard of PDP MLA from Wachi Shopian on Friday deserted with eight weapons, seven Ak-47 rifles and a pistol, belonging to police personnel deployed along with him for the security of legislator from the south Kashmir district at Srinagar.
Official sources said that a high alert has been sounded and search operation has been started to nab the SPO identified as Adil Bashir.

Sources said the SPO from Zainapora Shopian, deserted with weapons from official residence of the PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir at J-11, Government Quarters Jawahar Nagar here. “Police is investigation whether all weapons were taken away today or yesterday.” The PDP MLA, they said, is out of station from last several days.
