Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission has directed Drug Controller to prepare a scheme for improvements in the system so that supply and sale of spurious and Sub-Standard Drugs was minimized in Jammu and Kashmir
Disposing of a petition, chairman SHRC Justice (Retd) Bilal Nazki also said that Drug Controller should prepare a scheme within six months and forward it to Government. “Government shall consider the matter and take appropriate steps in the light of the scheme so prepared by the Drug Controller,” the chairperson said.
The order was passed by the Commission after the Additional Advocate General and the petitioner—J&K Peoples Forum through General Secretary, M M Shuja.
The Peoples Forum in the petition filed in 2013 alleged supply and sale of spurious and Sub-Standard Drugs and their use in the Government Hospitals. The petitioner also made various suggestions for ensuring that spurious and Sub-Standard Drugs are neither supplied nor sold in the market.
A detailed report was filed by Drug Controller, stating that systems and the mechanisms were in place to check sale and supply of spurious Sub-Standard Drugs. Drug Controller has however mentioned that there are not sufficient laboratories in the State, where drugs could be tested without loss of time.
The Drug Controller also mentioned that the Laboratories which are available, do not have sufficient technical staff and as such, it takes long time to get the samples examined by Drug Laboratories.
