Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar on Friday said that the statement of India’s national Security Advisor Ajit Doval has removed “all masks and brought the real face of the Government of India before people of J&K and the world that for GoI the ultimate aim has always been to hold on to the territory of J&K at any cost with total disregard for the will of its inhabitants.”
“This government believes in achieving that by complete integration of J&K with union of India, through doing away with any and every provision that its own constitution had provided to the disputed state till the holding of a plebiscite that its own head of state had committed to the world,” Mirwaiz said addressing Friday congregation at historic Jama Masjid here.
“Change in demography by removing state subject laws is part of the integration plan,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “Impatience to execute this design ,can be seen by the NSA statement challenging every law and constitutional provisions enshrined in Indian constitution , till the matter was to be decided by the people of J&K through referendum, by calling them aberrations that had to be done away with.”
Mirwaiz said it shows “arrogance and a complete disregard” for historical facts and ground realities about J&K, its “disputed status and the will of its people held by forcible control through military power.”
“J&K was and is a dispute. It is a human issue. It’s about the relentless struggle of a people who want to ascertain their identity as a nation through a right to choose their destiny, as both India and Pakistan did when they got that opportunity in 1947.”
People of J&K, he said, are struggling for that opportunity . “It was promised to them and the world is witness to it as it stands endorsed at the UN.”
Mirwaiz said how can any nation, in this case India, go back on its word, its commitment and call it outdated?
“Is there an expiry date to commitment,” he asked. “Passage of time does not alter its relevance,” he added.
Mirwaiz said, If it were so today the third and fourth generation of Kashmiri’s since 1988, from 1947 when the commitment was made and they were not even born, would not be rebellious, protesting on the streets and alleys of every nook and corner of the state and getting mercilessly killed. “India would not need lakhs of forces to exert its control and run its writ. There would be no grave human rights violations happening here as reported by world media and international rights organisations including UN reports.”
Mirwaiz said “coercion repression and arrogance of might is no way to deal with aspirations of a people, especially when people feel that their aspirations are backed by commitments and based on principals of justice.”
“The only way forward is to understand the concerns and aspirations of people of J&K and address it accordingly either through giving them Right of self determination or through deliberations at the table among the stakeholders India Pakistan and people of J&K. To those who advocate coercion and deception I say truth always prevails,” Mirwaiz said.
