Srinagar: Even after passing four years since the ferocious floods hit Kashmir Valley on this day in 2014; the trade community on Friday accused the government for ignoring their plights, saying that the authorities concerned have failed to rehabilitate the flood affected traders, thus leaving them to lurch at large.

Kashmir Economic Alliance headed by Farooq Ahmad Dar today staged a protest against the government for failing to rehabilitate flood affected traders here.

The trade body assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave while carrying banners and chanted slogans in favour of their demands and against the government.

Calling September 07 as the ‘blackest day’ for the people of Kashmir, Dar told reporters here that the government has utterly failed to rehabilitate the traders who suffered tremendous loss due to the floods on this day in 2014.

“We went from pillar to post to seek rehabilitation as per the government announcement but some coins were released in favour of traders following which the trade community was totally ignored, “Dar said.

Dar urged the government to rehabilitate the flood affected traders so that they could start a fresh at an earliest.

“Since last four years, the government has failed to come up to the expectations of the flood affected traders as the announcement was made over rehabilitation of the traders but unfortunately most of the businessmen were left on the mercy of Almighty Allah,” he said.

It is worth to mention here that the floods hit Kashmir Valley on this day in September 2014, which led to huge loss to the people of Kashmir. Thousands of houses and shops suffered damage in the floods.

The government had stated that the loss due to floods including the (private) businesses was in excess of Rs one lakh crore.
