NC to boycott upcoming ULB, panchayat elections

Srinagar: In a major political development, National Conference on Wednesday announced to boycott the upcoming elections to Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats in the state. The announcement was made by Party supremo Farooq Abdullah at a presser here.  Farooq said that people were disappointed by the stand taken by the government state and central government regarding Article 35A, the vires of which have been challenged in the Supreme Court.

While Farooq was addressing the reporters, his son and party’s vice president Farooq Abdullah took to twitter, saying it  was now for the central government to clarify “where it stands with regard to Article 35-A.” “It’s not enough to use Panchayat & Municipal elections simply to delay proceedings in court,” he added.
