Srinagar: Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Monday condemned the killing of a youth in Pulwama by government forces, “ill-treatment” meted out to the Kashmiri detainees and prisoners even as it demanded investigation by a team of “competent and honest team of police officers” into the killing of 9-year-old girl in Uri Baramulla.
In a statement issued here, the lawyers’ body also strongly condemned the killing Fayaz Ahmad Wani of Chewa Kalan Pulwama by the government forces and also of launching of CASO in 18 villages of Pulwama District without any “rhyme or reason” and described it as a worst kind of “reign of terror let loose by the ruthless forces in Kashmir which is aimed at to intimidate, threaten and harass the innocent people of Kashmir of dire consequences if they continue to demand the right of self-determination and implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions guaranteeing them the said right.”
The Bar Association also condemns the use of pellet guns and teargas shells during a search operation by the forces at Laddi Imam Sahab village of Shopian District, causing injuries to seven civilians, out of whom four with pellet injuries in their eyes were referred to Srinagar hospitals for specialized treatment.
The Bar Association also denounces the arrest of two house owners namely Mohammad Yousuf Wani and Mushtaq Ahmad for no fault of theirs and terms the same as an act of vengeance and brutality, deserving utmost condemnation from one and all.
“The Bar Association also condemns the ill-treatment meted out to the Kashmiri freedom loving prisoners lodged in different jails of the State and outside and terms the incident relating to Haji Abdul Gani Bhat, a 65 year old resident of Sopore at Central Jail, Srinagar, where recently he was forced to remain naked in the jail premises as shameful and contrary to the safeguards enshrined in the constitution and the Jail Manual, of which serious notice should be taken by the High Court which is hearing a Public Interest Writ Petition filed in 2011 for providing necessary facilities and amenities to the prisoners lodged in the jails of the State and every time, when the case comes up before the Court, it impresses upon the jail authorities to treat the jail inmates with compassion and provide them all facilities, which will make them to live a meaningful life, while in custody, but despite those orders, the inmates are continuously treated rudely and their life, is as such made miserable.”
The Bar Association also condemned the arrest of Syed Shakeel, an employee of SKIMS Soura, Srinagar and son of Syed Salah-ud-din as also of Journalist Aasif Sultan, who was picked up by the police during a raid at his Batamaloo house on the night of August 27 as unwarranted, unjustified and revengeful and calls upon the members of international community and all human rights organizations to intervene in the matter and see to it that both the innocents are released from captivity forthwith.
The Bar Association also condemns the killing of a nine-year-old innocent girl of Uri and demands that the case should be investigated by a competent and honest team of police officers “so that the culprits are immediately brought to book and are awarded exemplary punishment by the court.”
