Jammu:  BJP faced a humiliating defeat in the prestigious Kargil Council elections where party managed to win only one seat till filing of this report and National Conference grabbed the major share with nine seats.

Counting of votes on remaining six seats was going on.

Results of 20 out of total 26 seats have been declared. NC was leading with nine seats, followed by Congress six, three Independents and one each from PDP and BJP.

For Kargil Council elections, BJP had spent crores and all senior party leaders camped at Kargil to muster support for party’s candidates. State president Ravinder Raina and along with political mentor and general secretary of the party Ashok Koul camped at Kargil and pumped huge funds to win maximum number of seats but party had to bite the dust in the elections.

Raina-Koul duo had deputed all senior leaders including former ministers for the campaigning but all their efforts failed to yield any result.

As reported earlier, prestige of BJP was at the stake for these elections for which polling was held on August 27.
