Srinagar: Amid discussions and arrangements for the recently announced Panchayat and Municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the political parties in the State claimed that the atmosphere is not conducive for any elections, asking the Governor led administration to assure people of fair and peaceful elections.

National Conference (NC) provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani told INS that the Governor led administration must ascertain that the ground situation is conducive for the polls. “We have cleared party’s stand before the previous Governor and we will clear our stand before the newly appointed Governor too,” he added.

He said that government must assure that the ground situation is conducive for the polls following which the party will take the final call over the elections.

“The elections were announced verbally. So far no notification has been sent to us regarding the polls. Let Govt clear it stands on the situation first,” he said.

Talking to INS, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice president and MLC, G N Monga said that the party is ready to take part in any democratic process but let the government assure safety and security of people including the candidates.

“I believe that situation is not conducive for the polls but it stands the responsibility of government to take a final call over the issue. We are ready to participate but the government must assure the safety and security of people as well as the candidates,” he said.
