Kupwara: A day after their pictures wielding gun went viral on social media, four militants were arrested after a brief gunfight in woods of Kupwara in north Kashmir on Sunday.
An army officer said the four militants, who had joined the militant ranks only couple of days back, were arrested alongwith weapons in upper reaches of Kalaroos Kupwara early Sunday morning while attempting to exfiltrate across the Line of Control.
“On receipt of credible information about four newly recruited militants being guided by three militants of Al-Badr for a planned exfiltration, the army in a joint operation with police laid an ambush and trapped the militants,” an army officer said. After a brief gunfight, he said, extreme restraint was exercised and opportunity was given to the militants to surrender. “While the four newly recruited militants surrendered , the three Al-Badr militants deserted the new recruits and fled under cover of fire,” he added.
