SSP traffic Shakti Kumar Pathak told INS that more than 900 vehicles were stranded on the strategic highway and efforts were underway to restore it for traffic. Among the stranded vehicles include passenger ones, he said. “It may still take around 3p.m. to make the road worth travel,” he said, adding, “only stranded traffic will be cleared today and no fresh traffic will be allowed either from Jammu or Srinagar.”

The clearance operation is underway in Magarkote sector of the highway which was hit by the landslides on Saturday.

The officer also advised travellers to contact traffic control rooms in Jammu and Srinagar before undertaking a journey.
