Srinagar: Two policemen and BJP worker were killed in separate incidents in south Kashmir on first day of Eid-ul-Azha on Wednesday.
In the latest of the three incidents, a policeman was fatally attacked by unknown gunmen, suspected to be militants, at Louswani area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The policeman, Mohammad Yaqoob, was fired upon from point blank range near his residence at Louswani area, critically injuring him. He was immediately removed to district hospital from where he was shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment. However, he succumbed to the injuries on way to Srinagar, the sources added.
Militants also killed a policeman early Wednesday morning by firing upon him. A Police spokesperson said the cop Fayaz Ahmed Shah son of Abdul Rehman Shah who was on leave and had gone to offer Eid prayer when he was shot dead.
The 34-year-old was recently promoted as constable and is survived by two minor daughters aged 5 and 2 years, wife and an aged mother.
“Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation in the instant matter has been initiated,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier, bullet-riddled body of a BJP worker was found dead after he was kidnapped by suspected militants in Pulwama district, police said.
The body of Shabir Ahmad Bhat was found in the fields at Rakh-e-Litter area of Kupwara, a police official said. Bhat, incharge of BJP’s social media cell, was abducted by suspected militants last night, he said.
