Kupwara: A family from langate in northern Kashmir’s  frontier district Kupwara claimed one among the five militants killed in Rafiabad woods their kin.

A family from langate on Friday afternoon approached police in dangiwach area of Baramulla district claiming  one among five militants their kin ‘Muzaffer Ahmad’, Officals in the police department said. 

Accordingly they directed the family to approach SSP Sopore for further course of action into the matter.

Iqbal Ahmad, brother of slain militant said that they identified Muzaffer through photos which had gone viral on social media.

“Soon after seeing the photos, we approached the police for exhumation of the body,” Iqbal said, adding, “Muzaffer had gone missing about a week ago and the next thing we heard was Army claiming to have killed him in Rafiabad woods along with militants”.

Slain Militants family on Saturday reached Baramulla  to meet the officials in Army  and police involved in gunfight, for identification of Muzaffer Ahmad.

“My parents and relatives will identify Muzaffer through a photo which will be shown by concerned Army unit,” Iqbal said.

“A family from langate has approached claiming one among the five militants killed is their kin” SSP sopore Javaid Iqbal said.

“After proper DNA test and other medical formalities, If the claims turn out true, the body of slain militant will be handed over to langate family”, He added.

Meanwhile MLA langate Er. Rasheed Saturday visited the slain militants family and urged authorities to speed up the DNA authentication, while calling it a ‘humiliation tactic’.

“Feel the pain of the family and show some human face so that the body of Muzaffar Ahmad Mir is taken to his ancestral place at an earliest and his last rites are performed in accordance with religious traditions,” he said.
